Vilma Fernandez ObituaryObituary published on Legacy.com by Holy Angels Funeral Center & Holy Sepulchre Cemetery on Mar. 11, 2026.With deep love and profound sadness, we announce the passing of Vilma Mavis Fernandez, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and sister, who entered eternal rest on March 7, 2026, in Fremont, California, at the age of 88.Born on August 26, 1937, in Karachi, Pakistan (British India), Vilma was the youngest of three children and grew into a woman of remarkable strength, faith, and joy. She embraced life with courage and kindness, devoting herself to her family, her church, and her community.In her early years, Vilma enjoyed social gatherings and was actively involved in church ministries, especially the Legion of Mary and various prayer groups. As a mother and grandmother, she found great joy in cooking for her family, sharing stories, and engaging in spirited games of Scrabble, cards, and board games. She also loved Sudoku, jigsaw and crossword puzzles, knitting, and sewing -- hobbies that reflected her patience and creativity.In her later years, Vilma remained deeply committed to her faith as an active member of St. James the Apostle Catholic Church, serving as an adult acolyte, lector, and Eucharistic Minister. She also volunteered for 17 years at Washington Health, where she formed cherished friendships within the volunteer community.Vilma is survived by her devoted husband of 68 years, Louis Fernandez; her children Jeffrey (Henrietta), Lorraine, Kevin, Rodney (Purba), and Melvyn (Naomi); her grandchildren Roshan, Kelsey, and Aidan; and her sister, Enid D'Silva of Sydney, Australia. She was preceded in death by her parents, Leo Joseph Lobo and Emily Lobo, and her brother, Sydney Lobo.Vilma's warmth, generosity, and unwavering faith touched all who knew her. She will be dearly missed and forever remembered by her family and friends.Visitation will be on Monday, April 6, 2026, beginning at 5:00PM and ending at 7:00PM with a vigil starting at 5:30PM at Holy Sepulchre Funeral Center, 1051 Harder Road, Hayward, CA.Funeral mass will be held at St. James the Apostle Church, 34700 Fremont Blvd., Fremont, CA starting at 11:00AM on Tuesday, April 7, 2026.In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to the Padre Pio Foundation of America in honor of Vilma Fernandez.To plant trees in memory, please visit the Sympathy Store.
