Cardenas Sr., 79, passed away peacefully on March 6, 2026, surrounded by his family. He was born on March 15, 1946, in Guamúchil, Mexico.Raised in Mexicali and Tijuana, Mexico, Victor grew up with humble beginnings that shaped a lifetime commitment to education, service, and community. Through perseverance and dedication, he built a successful career as an educational administrator and mentor to many students and educators.Victor began his professional career with the Mexican Consulate, where he served from 1966 to 1981. During this time, he also pursued higher education and later earned a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from California State University, Fresno in 1978. On May 25, 1968, Victor married the love of his life, Maria Cardenas, in Los Angeles, California. Together they built a loving family and shared 57 years of marriage.In 1986 he began a long and impactful career with the Houston Independent School District (HISD), where he worked until 2000. During his time with HISD, he served as Assistant Principal at Lamar High School and later as principal of Lee Elementary School, touching the lives of countless students, teachers, and families.Victor will be remembered for his easygoing nature, charisma, humor, and love of storytelling. His warm personality and joyful spirit made him a friend to many, and his laughter and jokes brightened every room he entered.He is survived by his beloved wife of 57 years, Maria Cardenas; his sons, Victor Cardenas, and Edgar Cardenas; and his six cherished grandchildren: Olivia, Sophie, Liles, Alex, Seve, and Quinn Cardenas; daughters-in-law Lynley Cardenas and Ann Cardenas; and numerous nieces and nephews.Victor's legacy of dedication to education, family, and community will live on through all those whose lives he touched. Juntos formaron una familia llena de amor y compartieron 57 años de matrimonio.De 1984 a 1986 se desempeñó como Director Regional de MABE, continuando su labor de apoyo a la educación y al desarrollo de oportunidades para los estudiantes. En 1986 inició su carrera con el Distrito Escolar Independiente de Houston (HISD), donde trabajó hasta el año 2000. Durante ese tiempo fue Subdirector de Lamar High School y posteriormente Director de Lee Elementary School, impactando positivamente la vida de innumerables estudiantes, maestros y familias.Víctor será recordado por su carácter tranquilo, su carisma, su sentido del humor y su amor por contar historias y chistes. Su espíritu alegre y su personalidad cálida alegraban a todos los que lo rodeaban.Le sobreviven su amada esposa de 57 años, María Concepcion Cárdenas; sus hijos, Víctor Cárdenas Jr. y Edgar Cárdenas; y sus seis queridos nietos: Olivia, Sophie, Liles, Alex, Seve y Quinn Cárdenas.El legado de Víctor de dedicación a la educación, a su familia y a su comunidad perdurará en todos aquellos cuyas vidas tocó.
