Great Bend, KS
Vickie Ann Ruble, 82, of Great Bend, Kansas, passed away on March 14, 2026, at The University of Kansas Health Systems – Great Bend Campus.
Born on June 12, 1943, in Ness County, Kansas, to Jacob and Dorothy (Collins) Boos, Vickie married Larry R. Ruble on April 3, 1958, in Alva, Oklahoma. He preceded her in death on October 11, 2013. A lifelong resident of Great Bend, she worked for Duckwall’s and Alco before spending more than 40 years with USD 428, first at the central office for Roosevelt Junior High School and then as head of lunch services at Park Elementary School until her retirement.
Vickie was deeply devoted to her faith and made certain her children were raised in the church. She found joy in her bowling league, working concessions at SRCA Dragstrip races, camping and boating at Lake Wilson, attending the Barton County Fair and Kansas State Fair, and listening to Elvis Presley—affectionately calling her husband “Teddy Bear.” An avid animal lover, she was above all a dedicated mother and grandmother. She served as a Campfire Girl and Scout leader, attended every event in her children’s lives, and continued that steadfast support for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, rarely missing a program or activity.
She is survived by her children, DeAnna Moran (Steve) of Claflin, Tammy Bell (K.B.) of Great Bend, and Larry M. Ruble (Lorrie) of Great Bend; six grandchildren, Nathan Farmer, Suzanne Montes, Deidre Moran, Alisha Markley, Cody Ruble, and Bryce Moran; seven great-grandchildren, Ashlyn Elliott, Brody Montes, Memphys Markley, Peyton Ruble, Isaac Ruble, Josie Moran, and Christiaan Broodryk; one great-great-grandchild, Rowyn Elliott, with another on the way; three siblings, Kathy Leiser (David) of Newton, Christina Smith (Tyrone) of Springfield, Missouri, and David Ramsey (Heather) of Great Bend; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, and her sister, Betty Jo Boos.
