Veronica McCloud

1950 — 2026

Chicago, IL

Veronica H. McCloud, born Veronica Hogan on April 12, 1950, passed away on March 14, 2026. A lifelong resident of Chicago’s McKinley Park neighborhood, she was a devoted wife to her late husband, Martin P. McCloud, a Marine veteran, with whom she shared 43 years of marriage.

She was the loving mother of Michelle (Randy) Shew and cherished grandmother to Samantha (Koty) Bennett, who is currently serving in the United States Army while deployed, and Dylan Shew (Sarah Paetsch). Veronica was the proud great-grandmother of Emmalynn Bennett and Nash Bennett.

Predeceased by her parents, James and Julia Hogan (Murphy), Veronica is remembered as a loving sister to her surviving siblings, Timothy (late Mary) Hogan and Denise (Dewey) Reed, and as the dear sister-in-law to Dorothy Widlacki, Diane (Gary) Sams, and Marion (Jim) Burke. She was preceded in death by several siblings: Joan Petroski, Maureen (Ron) Borcherding, James (Dolly) Hogan, Daniel (Lucy) Hogan, Judith (Rich) Koziol, and Mary (Bill) See. She was also the devoted daughter-in-law of the late Daniel K. McCloud and Margaret (née Williams).

For decades, Veronica was an active member of the William McKinley Post 231 Women’s Auxiliary and worked at the neighborhood White Castle for 29 years. She touched the lives of many as a cherished aunt, cousin, and friend.
