Vernon Sanchez Goode

Vernon Sanchez Goode, 60, passed away after a lengthy illness on March 8, 2026. Born in Charleston, South Carolina, on January 22, 1966, he moved to St. Augustine at the age of seven and remained a proud resident for the rest of his life. Vernon cherished his deep family roots, tracing his ancestry through the Sanchez line back to the founding of St. Augustine in 1565, and he took great pleasure in sharing the stories of his family’s history.

A graduate of St. Augustine High School, class of 1984, Vernon was voted “Best All Round,” played football and wrestled, and participated in JROTC. He later completed the nursing program at FCTC and worked as a licensed practical nurse at Flagler Hospital. He then joined his brother Bill at Goode Works Custom Cabinets, where their skilled craftsmanship can still be seen in many fine homes and businesses across Florida.

Vernon loved watching football, especially the Florida Gators and the Miami Dolphins, spending time at the beach, and visiting with family and friends. Known for his humor and warm personality, he brought laughter and joy to those around him. He is survived by his twin brother Martin (Heather) Goode, his sister Kelly (Kevin) Battell, nieces Kerron DeLancett, Cheyenne Kesslar, Courtney Goode and Kora Battell, nephews Kyle Battell, Taylor Goode, Connor Goode and Hunter Goode, sister-in-law Mary Goode, aunts Penny Mayo and Karen Taylor, uncles Byng Goode and Jeff Overby, and many dear cousins and friends. He was predeceased by his parents, Sanchez and Eleanor Abnot Goode, and his brother William Goode.

He will be greatly missed and forever remembered by all who knew and loved him.
