Vernon George Elliott Jr, 83, of Savannah, Georgia, passed away peacefully on March 4, 2026, surrounded by family.
He was born on January 14, 1943, in Savannah, Georgia, to Vernon and Josephine Hooks Elliott. He graduated from Groves High School in 1960 and later retired from Guerry Lumber in 2022 after 24 years of dedicated work.
Vernon was known for his quick wit, his steady kindness, and unwavering dedication to the people he loved. In his retirement, he loved spending time with his sweet Linda, wood working, spending time at his gun club and visiting with family and friends.
He is survived by his loving wife of 39 years, Linda; his children, Sonja Elliott Goodwin (Keith), DeAnn Marie Conner, Verna Georgianna Guthrie, Dawson Stevens Fogle (Margie); his grandchildren, Elliott, Randall, Holly, Jonathan, Brooke, Sarah, Emma, and Destiny; six great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews as well as other extended family and friends who knew him affectionally as GDaddy. He was preceded in death by his parents and his son, Lugene Hanson Fogle, Jr “Mike”.
Vernon was a faithful member of Southside Baptist Church in Savannah, GA and a member of Jerral Mayes’ Sunday School class. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, March 10th at 10 am at the church with the service following at 11 am in the sanctuary. A graveside service will be held immediately following at Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens.
In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made in Vernon’s memory to Southside Baptist Church, 5502 Skidaway Road, Savannah, GA 31406.
