Vernon Dewane Thomas
February 6, 1945— March 11, 2026
Moyers, OK
Vernon Dewane Thomas, 81, of Moyers, Oklahoma, passed away on March 12, 2026. Born on February 6, 1945, in Antlers, Oklahoma, he was the son of Virgil Albert Thomas and Yolander Grelena (Wall) Northrip.
A lifelong resident of Pushmataha County, Vernon married the love of his life, Patricia Ann Hacker, on July 14, 1966, in Atoka. The couple made their home in Moyers. Drafted into the United States Army in 1966, he proudly served his country. After his military service, he worked in construction before discovering his true passion in ranching. Known as a skilled cattle and horseman, Vernon earned deep respect in the ranching community for his knowledge and experience. He spent countless hours in the saddle, riding across the pastures to tend his livestock. He also cherished the outdoors, particularly fishing, hog hunting, and trapping, knowing the land intimately and sharing his love for it with all who knew him.
Above all, Vernon’s greatest devotion was to his family. He is survived by his four sons, Dewane Thomas and his wife Mitzi, Randy Thomas and his wife Lee Ann Fisher, Jody Thomas, and Bradley Thomas and his wife Kathy; bonus sons Kenneth Williams and Brandon Motley; daughter-in-law Shannon Mckenzie; grandchildren Garrett, Tyrel, Tanna, Stacey, Taylor, Katelyn, Kamie, Jennifer, Mark, Ryan, Desiree, and Alyssa; 21 great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; and many other family members, friends, and loved ones.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Patricia Ann Thomas; his infant brother, Billy Gene Thomas; his sister, Patty Ruth (Thomas) Babcock; and his niece, Rebecca Ann “Becky” Smith.
