Brainerd, MN

Vernon Alvin Ferrian, 85, of Brainerd, Minnesota, passed away on March 6, 2026, at Woodland Good Samaritan.

Born on May 11, 1940, in Minneapolis, Minnesota, to Frank and Lorraine Gertrude (Bertram) Ferrian, Vernon grew up with a strong work ethic that would define his life. On September 2, 1963, he married Carolyn Ann Bruder in Long Prairie, Minnesota. Together they created a home rooted in family, hard work, and a deep appreciation for the outdoors.

For 37 years, Vernon worked as a Heavy Equipment Mechanic and Welder for the Minnesota State Highway Department. He took genuine pride in his craft and was widely respected for his remarkable mechanical skill and his ability to repair or build nearly anything.

In his free time, Vernon found joy in fishing, welding projects, and being outdoors. He looked forward to hunting, snowmobiling, and cross-country skiing each season, and he cherished evenings spent playing cards, board games, chess, and softball with family and friends.

Vernon is survived by his loving wife, Carolyn; his children, Lorri (Joe Kempenich), David (Lisa Lenk), Lee, Jon (Edythe Mudgett), and Kurt (Amy Jo); 13 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; his daughter, Karin Ferrian; granddaughter, Leanne Ferrian; and his siblings, Lorraine, Frank, Arlene, Yvonne, Mary Jean, Joe-Al, and Evelyn.
