Verna Mae Schalow

Verna Mae Schalow, age 84, passed away peacefully on March 5, 2026.

Verna was born in Wausau, WI to Alfred and Helen Wendt. Verna married Robert J Schalow of Wausau, Wisconsin on August 30th, 1962 at Trinity Lutheran in Wausau, WI.

Verna started her working career at Lemke Cheese in Wausau and then transitioned to the Wausau School District in their Food Service Department. She worked at a few of their schools as she followed her boys as they grew up and retired from the Food Service Department at Wausau West High School.

Verna loved her hummingbirds and watching old westerns on TV. She loved spending time with family and friends. Her and her husband Bob would spend summer weekends with her boys up north fishing and she also enjoyed deer hunting with the family.

Verna is survived by her son Dean (Maria) Schalow

13 Great Grandchildren - William Schalow, Alexis & Eliza Rogers, Connor & Murphy Hancock, Isabella, Owen & Violet Schalow, Marina & Mariyana Robinson, Ariya & Kyrie Schalow, Khamari Schalow, and Jakson Petersen

1 Sister Lois (Gary) Hoffman, and 1 Brother Donald (Inge) Wendt

She was preceded in death by her husband Robert J Schalow, Clark Schalow (Son), Alfred Wendt (Father) Helen Wendt (Mother) Lyle Wendt (Brother ) Phyllis Venner (Sister), Kenneth Wendt (Nephew), Gary Hoffman (Brother in Law), Calista Wendt (Sister in Law)

A Celebration of Life will be held at The Town of Merrill Community Center located at W4594 Progress Ave, Merrill, WI 54452, on Saturday May 16, 2026.
