Verna Kae Swanson

Verna Kae Swanson of Logansport passed away peacefully on March 8, 2026, at the age of 84. Born on November 19, 1941, to William and Elanor Martin, she spent her entire life in north central Indiana. Known affectionately as Kae by family and friends, she was remembered for her cheerful and friendly nature, her optimism, and her remarkable ability to remain understanding even in difficult times. These qualities served her well as she raised three children largely on her own.

Kae found great joy in bowling and participated in a league at the local bowling alley for many years without missing a season. In more recent times, she looked forward to Saturday afternoons spent playing games with her sisters. Her career began as a keypunch data entry operator, but when her manufacturing company sought a computer operator for its IBM mainframe, her quick learning ability earned her the position in what was then a largely male-dominated field in the 1970s.

Kae is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Yumiko Swanson of Port Orchard, Washington; her daughter Veronica Swanson of Logansport; and her daughter and son-in-law, Theresa and Tracy Smith of Logansport. She is also survived by five grandchildren, Makoto, Seiji, Masaru, Jonathan, and Talon; seven great-grandchildren, Yuichi, Nanami, Toru, Airi, Yumi, Madison, and Marshal; and her four sisters, Karen, Karyl, Jean, and Willa Dee.
