Vera “Buttercup” Sinovich passed away on March 10, 2026, at the age of 98. Born on March 26, 1927, in Mildred, Pennsylvania, she was the fourth of eight children of the late Sebastian and Amelia Evangelisti. A graduate of Cherry Township High School, class of 1945, Vera played basketball and served as a cheerleader, traits that reflected the spirited and social nature she carried throughout her long life.
In 1950 she married the love of her life, Michael Sinovich. The couple shared 69 years of marriage filled with love, laughter, travel, and countless dances. Whether at a club, family gathering, or special event, they rarely missed an opportunity to take to the dance floor. Vera lived a vibrant, active life and found her greatest joy surrounded by family, friends, and community. A lifelong member of St. Matthew’s Parish, she served as a track official for the DE Sports Club for more than 40 years. She loved fashion, sewing, music, and any occasion that brought people together. She and Michael were longtime members of the New Castle Moose 1578 and the American Legion, where they spent many joyful evenings socializing and dancing. Vera was also a member of the Girls Club of America and the American Legion Auxiliary in Mildred, Pennsylvania. She was always the first to arrive and the last to leave any gathering.
Family was the heart of Vera’s world. She treasured every moment spent with her loved ones and took great pride in each generation. She is survived by her daughters, Michelle Paoli and Gina Sinovich (Michael Deptula); her grandchildren, Pat Paoli (Heather), Ashley Kapes (Carl), Frances Anne Burg (Kenny), and Michelle Fenimore (Wayne); and her great-grandchildren, Bryce and Brooklyn Kapes and Luca and Siena Paoli. She is also survived by her sister, Arlene Dwojewski (Joseph), and many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband, Michael, in 2019; her son-in-law, Pasquale Paoli; and her siblings and their spouses, Erminia Ritinski (Edward), Raymond Evangelisti (Helen), Ena Novello (Anthony), Elda Ritinski (Joseph), John Evangelisti (Yvonne), and Linda Stevens. In her final years, Vera was lovingly cared for at home by her daughters with the devoted assistance of her caregiver Linda P., for whom the family remains deeply grateful. Caregiver Tammy W. also provided welcome respite on weekends.
Vera will be remembered for her vibrant spirit, her love of dancing and socializing, her sense of style, and above all the deep love she held for her family. Her family will forever cherish the memories, laughter, and love she brought into their lives.
