Velma Underwood ObituaryObituary published on Legacy.com by Blase-Strauser Memorial Chapel & Monuments - Gothenburg on Mar. 4, 2026.Velma Underwood, 90, of Gothenburg, Nebraska, passed away on March 3, 2026, at Gothenburg Health.Velma was born on July 29, 1935, to Ted and Velma (Long) Neeman. She spent much of her life devoted to caring for others, both personally and professionally. Velma worked as a Nursing Aide, a role that reflected her compassionate and giving nature.She was a devoted member of Cornerstone Bible Church, where she deeply cherished her church and church family. The senior center held a special place in her heart, and she spent many meaningful days there rolling pretzels, making noodles, playing pinochle and Mexican Train, and hand-quilting countless items throughout her life. Velma also loved family reunions, embroidery, quilting, and putting puzzles together.Above all else, Velma's greatest joy was her family. Her children and grandchildren were the most important part of her life, and she treasured every moment spent with them.Velma was preceded in death by her husband, Garland Underwood; her parents, Theodore and Mamie Neeman; her daughter, Kathy Griffis, and son, Stanley Underwood.She is survived by her children: Richard (Chris) Underwood; Garland (Clare) Underwood; Randy (Tracy) Underwood; and Lolita (Hobart) Watts, daughter-in-law Jeri Underwood, along with numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, and extended family members, and friends.Visitation will be held on Monday, March 9, 2026 from 1:00-7:00 PM with the family present from 4:00-6:00 PM at Blase-Strauser Memorial Chapel, 620 10th St, Gothenburg, NE.Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM, Tuesday, March 10, 2026 at the Cornerstone Bible Church, 1721 Lake Ave, Gothenburg, NE with Pastor Scott Newman officiating.Burial will follow in the Gothenburg Cemetery.In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to the Gothenburg Senior Center.To plant trees in memory, please visit the Sympathy Store.
