Velma Fettig

August 5, 1934 March 6, 2026

Minot, ND

Velma Fettig passed away on March 6, 2026, in Minot, North Dakota, at the age of 91, surrounded by her loving family at an assisted living facility.

Born on August 5, 1934, on the family farm near Frederick, South Dakota, to William and Rauha J. (Rääsiö) Anderson, Velma was raised and educated in Frederick, graduating from high school in 1952. She married Herman Fettig on April 23, 1960, in Seattle, Washington. The couple made their home in Aberdeen, South Dakota, where they raised their son Todd and enjoyed many family adventures, especially camping trips. They later moved to Pierre, South Dakota, and then to Minot, North Dakota, following Herman’s career. Velma worked in office positions with Job Service, an accounting firm, First Lutheran Church, and the Dakota Square Mall before retiring in 1997.

A longtime member of First Lutheran Church in Minot, Velma was active in the church circle and altar guild. She took special joy in supporting her granddaughters’ church activities. She loved cooking, baking, working on puzzles, and taking walks. In retirement, she and Herman traveled to play golf, visit family, and shop. Velma was proud of her Finnish heritage and deeply cherished her family. She was a loving wife and mother, and later became a proud and devoted grandmother to Joelle and Sydney. In her later years, her granddaughters delighted her with spa days, pizza parties, and playful shenanigans.

Velma is survived by her son Todd Fettig and his wife Lesley of Minot; grandchildren Joelle and Sydney Fettig and Max, Madison, and Hunter Erickson; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Herman, and her siblings Arnold Anderson, Vivian Raisanen, Violet Holderness, Archie Anderson, and Allen Anderson.
