Vanessa Zenobia Williams

January 8, 1984 March 7, 2026

Boston, MA

Vanessa Zenobia Williams moved through life with a vibrant energy that drew people to her instantly. Born on January 8, 1984, in Boston, Massachusetts, to Makeda and Reginald Williams, she was raised in Dorchester and grew up surrounded by family and community. From a young age, Vanessa was funny, outspoken, loving, and supportive, qualities that defined her throughout her years. Her warmth, infectious laughter, and larger-than-life personality made every room she entered feel brighter and more alive.

A talented hairstylist, Vanessa worked at Blow Bar in Boston’s Back Bay and later at Drybar, where her skill, leadership, and passion led her to become a regional educator. She took genuine joy in teaching others and building up those around her. Yet it was in her relationships that she truly shone. Her 21-year love story with Tarik McFarland began in a recording studio and grew into a deep partnership rooted in friendship, shared humor, and mutual respect. Together they welcomed their daughter, Zariah Samia Alves, on March 30, 2007. Vanessa’s bond with Zariah was profound and effortless; she cherished their conversations and took immense pride in the young woman her daughter has become, now a freshman at Howard University.

Vanessa shared a special closeness with her sisters, Sonjia, who was just a year and four months younger, and Moniqua. The three sisters moved through life with laughter, loyalty, and unwavering support for one another. She also held dear her large extended family, including more than forty first cousins, and treasured every gathering filled with conversation, music, and joy. Her best friend Yasmin stood by her side through many chapters, sharing adventures and a balanced, enduring friendship.

Vanessa loved to travel, sing, thrift for fashion, and create songs about everyday moments. She had a gift for making the ordinary feel special and for turning simple stories into unforgettable performances. Her playful spirit, signature “Vanessa-isms,” and heartfelt presence left a lasting impression on everyone who knew her. She is remembered with love by Tarik, Zariah, her parents, sisters, extended family, and many dear friends.
