Sandwich, MA
Valmore “Val” D. Crete, Jr., U.S. Air Force (Ret.), 88, of Sandwich, died unexpectedly on March 6, 2026 at his home. He was the husband of the late Norma (Hendricks) Crete, with whom he shared 43 years of marriage.
Born in New Bedford, Val was the son of the late Loretta (Fredette) Crete and Valmore Damose Crete. He proudly served his country in the United States Air Force for more than 20 years, including during the Vietnam era, and retired with the rank of Senior Master Sergeant. He received several medals and decorations, among them the Bronze Star, and his service took him to Alaska, Hawaii, the Philippines, South Korea, and Japan.
After his military career, Val became a dedicated member of the Wareham community. He played an instrumental role in the development of Wareham Little League, first as a coach and later as president, and was instrumental in securing the land for the league’s complex on Charge Pond Road. An avid outdoorsman, he found great joy in boating, camping, fishing, and golfing, especially when shared with family and friends.
He is survived by his children, Shan Crete Morrissey of Sandwich, Terri Crete Meehan of Vienna, Virginia, and Dan Crete of Marion, as well as 10 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his son, Doug Crete of Dugspur, Virginia, and by his siblings, Diane Nolan, Lucille Martel, Brian Crete, and Donna Crete Gorman.
