Twila Wood ObituaryObituary published on Legacy.com by Rogers Family Mortuary - Manassa on Mar. 16, 2026.Twila L. Wood, 86, peacefully passed away at the age of 86 on March 13, 2026, in La Jara, Colorado. Born on May 16, 1939, in Alamosa, Colorado, she was a beacon of love and wisdom to her family, friends, and the community.Twila was a woman of intelligence and warmth, qualities that endeared her to many throughout her remarkable life. Raised under the wide-blue Colorado skies, her early years on a ranch instilled in her a love for animals and the simple joys of country life. It was during these formative years, galloping on horseback and singing with the birds, that Twila's spirit took flight. Her thirst for knowledge led her to Adams State College, where she excelled in her studies and discovered her knack for shorthand – a skill that would serve her well in her work with Attorney Mr. Pound, who often praised her as his favorite secretary. However, it was Twila's thirty-two years as a fifth-grade teacher that truly showcased her passion for imparting wisdom and nurturing young minds.Faith played a central role in Twila's life. Her lifelong commitment to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints was evident in her active participation and many church callings, through which she spread love, guidance, and compassion.Twila's love for dance was immense. She loved to attend dances all over the San Luis Valley. It was her love for dancing that helped her learn to walk again after her hip surgery. She never desired city life, finding solace in the tranquil beauty of nature that had always been her home. She loved to eat fast food, Sonic was her favorite and she always had to have a hot fudge sundae.Predeceased by her parents, Homer Lee and Melva (Layton) Wood, her brother Kelton Bryce Wood, and other cherished family members, Twila's legacy of love endures through her surviving relatives. Her cousin Keith (Roberta) Layton of Alamosa, cousin Cynthia Sowards of Colorado Springs, niece Staci (Steve) McHattie of Nevada, and nephew Richard Wood. Deep gratitude is also held for her good friends and caretakers Richard Martin and Heather Huffaker who provided unwavering support and companionship.Twila L. Wood's life was a testament to the power of love, education, and faith. Always intelligent and loving, she will be fondly remembered and eternally cherished, like a timeless melody that resonates in the hearts of those she touched. Her inspiring legacy will continue to be a guiding light for all who had the privilege of knowing her. There will be a visitation/viewing at the Church of Jesus of Latter-day Saints in Manassa from 9:45 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. followed by the funeral service at 11 a.m., Saturday, March 21, 2026.
