Trudie Stewart Johns
September 16, 1935— March 8, 2026
Lake City, FL
Trudie Stewart Johns, 90, of Lake City, passed away peacefully on Sunday evening, March 8, 2026, at The Canopy at Harper Lake in Lake City after a brief illness. Born in Taylor, Florida, on September 16, 1935, to the late Charles T. Stewart and Gertrude Gordy Stewart, she lived a life marked by quiet strength and devotion. As a military wife, she made a home in California while her husband served in the Navy before the family returned to North Florida. She served faithfully for eight years as Financial Secretary of the First Presbyterian Church in Lake City and then for more than twenty-four years in the same role at Parkview Baptist Church, retiring only to care for her husband as his health declined.
In her quieter moments, Trudie found joy in square dancing, sewing, camping, and cooking. Above all, she cherished her family, delighting in gathering them for cookouts and creating a warm, welcoming home where everyone felt loved.
She was preceded in death by her husband of more than 59 years, Hugh Wallace Johns, Sr.; her brothers, Conrad Hayes Stewart and Donald Stewart (Mary); and her sisters, Gordene Stewart DuBose (A.D.), Laverta Roper (Al), and Constance Stewart Saunders (Morris).
She is survived by her three sons, Wally Johns (Reba), Gerald Johns (Charlene), and Scott Johns (Stephanie); her grandchildren, Candi Friend (Matt), Joshua Johns (Cicely), Christy Pisano, Aaron Johns (Jodi), Kayla Perla, Rebekah Baker (Matt), Emily Harris (David), Sarah Johns, Hannah Johns, and Joy Johns; seventeen great-grandchildren with one on the way; seven great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
