Tracy E. Petty, affectionately known by many as "The King," passed away peacefully on March 10, 2026, at the age of 68. Born in Hyde Park on October 24, 1957, Tracy brought a zest for life and an infectious laughter that left a lasting mark on everyone who knew him.
Predeceased by his father, Edward RS Petty, who taught him the values of hard work and dedication, Tracy is survived by his loving brother, Ed Petty of Hyde Park, his caring sister, Kathy Petty of Poughkeepsie, his cherished niece, Stacey Potik, and his adored great-nephew, Gavin. He also leaves behind a wide circle of friends who became like family over the years.
For many years, Tracy worked as a dedicated employee with the City of Poughkeepsie Department of Public Works. Known for his reliability and meticulous approach to every task, he brought humor and good spirits to the job, turning ordinary workdays into memorable ones. In his younger years, he earned respect in motocross racing circles for his fearlessness and skill on the track.
Tracy’s interests reflected his vibrant personality. He was an avid beer connoisseur who enjoyed sharing stories with friends, a passionate NASCAR fan who cheered enthusiastically for Jeff Gordon, and a dedicated golfer who valued both the game and the camaraderie it brought. Above all, he was remembered as someone who was funny, friendly, and remarkably handy, always ready with a quick wit or a helping hand. His legacy is one of laughter, friendship, and an unwavering zest for life. He will be deeply missed by all who were fortunate enough to know him.
