John Anthony “Tony” Porter, 84, of Franklin, Indiana, passed away on March 14, 2026, at Compass Park in Franklin. Born on January 27, 1942, in Whiteland, Indiana, to Harry W. and Mildred (Brewer) Porter, Tony lived a life marked by quiet dedication to family, country, and work.
He married Mary Snyder, who survives him. Tony is also survived by his daughter Sherry Lynn Porter Popplewell, granddaughter Sierra Lynn Popplewell Seacat, and great-grandchildren Isaiah, Tierra, and Mickey. He was preceded in death by his parents, his daughter Jill Annette Porter, his sister Joy Tabeling, and his brothers Bill and Ed Porter.
Tony served in the U.S. Army from 1961 to 1964 and was stationed in Saigon, Vietnam. After his military service, he enjoyed a long career with American General Insurance, from which he retired. A longtime member of St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Franklin, he remained rooted in the community where he spent most of his life.
He will be remembered by his family as a steadfast husband, father, and grandfather whose presence brought comfort and continuity across generations.
