Tommie Stanaland ObituaryObituary published on Legacy.com by Laird Funeral Home on Mar. 16, 2026.Funeral service for Tommie Jewel Stanaland, 94, formerly of Nacogdoches will be held at 2:00pm on Friday, March 20, 2026, at Laird Funeral Home with Bro. Tim Brewer officiating. Interment will follow at Shady Grove Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5-7pm on Thursday, March 19, 2026, at Laird Funeral Home.Mrs. Stanaland passed away on Monday, March 16, 2026, in League City.Tommie Jewel Stanaland was born September 12, 1931 to Thomas "Shamp" and Frances Edna Strahan in Nacogdoches, Texas. She grew up in a home shared with her five sisters where the love of the Lord, family and music began. She taught herself to play piano and grew up singing gospel harmony with her sisters. Her love of music was shared with all through every phase of her life. Many hours were spent with those gathered around her piano in song whether at home or community events or nursing home facilities. Alan and Tommie spent Saturday nights once a month opening the doors at Cedar Bluff Schoolhouse. They welcomed all who wanted to share their talents on stage and those who just wanted to be entertained or play a game of dominoes. She lived a long life and was blessed with five children of her own and four bonus children. Some of her favorite times were spent with them.She worked many years at Lone Star Farm and Home Center, Kinfolks Restaurant and Willowbrook Nursing Home. Throughout those years she made many lifelong friends and created special bonds with numerous people.Tommie spent her later years living a quiet life surrounded by and cared for by her family. She leaves behind hearts that are mourning their loss but joyous that she is with her heavenly Father and those who have been waiting to welcome her home.She is survived by sons, Earnest Wright & wife Becky, Jimmy "Dusty" Jones & wife Linda; daughters Carolyn Hanes and Fran Young & husband Dave; grandchildren Danett, Trishia, Gary, Dean, Jody, Thomas, Bonnie, Suzi, Jeremy, Jody, Bryan, Matt, Shannon, Cassidy, and J.R.; 21 great grandchildren and 6 great-great grandchildren. She is also survived by her stepchildren Ronnie Stanaland & wife Ann, Judy Turner & husband Leonard, Wanda Russell & husband Clem and Traci Wharton & husband Tom; step grandchildren Dayna, Jennifer, Thomas, Matthew, Justin, Greg, Jody, Melissa, Christina and Kelly; and 12 step great grandchildren.She is preceded in death by her parents, Thomas & Frances Balch Strahan; husband, Alan Stanaland; son, Gary Wright; sons-in-law, Jason Hanes and Chuck Gilland and sisters, Josephine, Rosemary, Betty, Lucy and Lottie.To send flowers to the family or plant a tree in memory of Tommie Jewel Stanaland, please visit our floral store.To plant trees in memory, please visit the Sympathy Store.
