Tom Stockton

August 17, 1953 March 5, 2026

Utica, MI

Thomas Eugene Stockton, a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and legendary coach, passed away peacefully on March 5, 2026, at the age of 72, surrounded by the family he cherished.

Born in Detroit on August 17, 1953, to Ina Stockton and the late Baugh Stockton, Tom grew up with a deep love for sports, a passion for drag racing in his youth, and a strong commitment to service. A proud graduate of Warren High School Class of 1971, he dedicated more than 40 years to Cook Industries as a respected Machinist Supervisor.

Tom’s gift for mentorship first emerged coaching his sons’ baseball and football teams. He later brought that same dedication to the bowling lanes, serving 29 years as the Stevenson High School Bowling Coach. A multiple-time State Champion Coach and Coach of the Year, he was inducted into both the Michigan High School Coaches Association Hall of Fame and the Macomb County Athletic Directors Association Hall of Fame. As a longtime MHSIBCA Board Member, he shaped the sport and mentored generations of young athletes.

Away from the field, Tom found joy in salmon fishing in Frankfort, Michigan, evenings spent with friends at the bowling alley, and cruising Woodward Avenue in his classic cars. He loved to talk and was always the first to offer a helping hand. Above all, his greatest pride was his family. He is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Cindy; his mother, Ina Stockton; his son Tom Stockton and wife April; his cherished grandchildren, Connor and Abigail; his son Andrew Stockton; his siblings, Bob (Mary) Stockton, Melissa (Chris) Turak, and James (Kathy) Stockton; sisters-in-law Debby Lance and Sandy Woloski; and a large, loving circle of nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, Baugh Thomas Stockton, and his sister, Linda Stockton.
