Timothy “Tim” Paul Kmiec

Timothy “Tim” Paul Kmiec, 59, a beloved husband, stepfather, son, brother, and friend, departed this world with his wife by his side on March 10, 2026, at home in Carol Stream, Illinois. Born on May 17, 1966, in Montpelier, Ohio, Tim lived a life defined by his unwavering commitment to family, service, and community.

A proud graduate of Wheaton North High School, class of 1984, he participated in soccer, gymnastics, and band, forming friendships that stayed with him throughout his life. He then served ten years in the United States Navy aboard the USS Vicksburg, earning the Navy Achievement Medal, Good Conduct Award, Humanitarian Service Medal, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, Southwest Asia Service Medal, NATO Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Sea Service Deployment Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon, Coast Guard Unit Commendation with “O” device, and three Navy "E" Ribbons. After his military service, he served as Jr. Vice Commander at Wheaton VFW Post 2164 from 1998 to 1999.

In civilian life, Tim worked for more than twenty-five years as a Facility Maintenance Mechanic at American Airlines. Known for his strong blue-collar work ethic and leadership, he served as Section Chairman of the Transportation Workers Union Local 512. His natural talent for fixing and building earned him deep respect among his colleagues.

Tim was a devoted family man who cherished his wife, Sylvia Kmiec, and embraced his role as stepfather to Victoria and Olivia. He faithfully attended their cheer competitions, band concerts, fencing matches, and school programs, sharing in their lives with genuine enthusiasm. He took great pride in his outdoor sanctuary, maintaining an immaculate lawn, vibrant flowers, and a flourishing garden while classic rock played in the garage. His backyard became a cherished gathering place for family and friends, including quiet moments shared with his best friend, Paul, over a beer.

He is survived by his loving wife, Sylvia Kmiec; stepdaughters, Victoria and Olivia; his mother, Mary Kmiec; brother, Stephen R. (Robin) Kmiec; sister, Tonya (Andy) Miller; nieces and nephew, Vincent (Gina), Gianna, Emily, Kylie, and Ally; and his beloved dog, Ziva. Tim was preceded in death by his father, Stephen C. Kmiec. His warmth, generosity, and steadfast spirit will remain forever in the hearts of all who knew him.
