Timothy Charles Mitter, 73, passed away peacefully at his home in Potomac, Maryland on March 13, 2026, after a decade-long battle with Lewy Body Dementia. He is survived by his wife, Carol.
Tim’s early scholastic and career endeavors reflected the remarkable diversity of his talents. A gifted trumpet player, he supported himself through school as a professional musician and received the McKaig Scholarship while pursuing a Master of Public Administration. He served as a law clerk with the 4th Judicial Circuit Court of Allegany County, Maryland, and became the youngest elected City Commissioner for a Maryland municipality. He later served as CEO of a large multifamily property management organization, overseeing development, financing, and operations. Over the course of a progressive 30-year career spanning public, nonprofit, and private sectors, Tim became a respected leader and expert in structured project finance for affordable multifamily housing in the tax-exempt securities markets.
Those who knew him cherished his amiable nature, sharp intellect, unwavering integrity, and exceptional gift for storytelling that could bring laughter to any room. Following the sudden death of his father in 1981, Tim devoted himself to safeguarding his mother’s well-being, health, and security until her passing in 2017. A lifelong musician, he mastered the piano, flute, and guitar, becoming something of a one-man band. He also found joy in travel, tennis, photography, pool, boating, gardening, and the devoted companionship of his dogs—Buddy, Sky, Gabriel, Luke, Rudy, and Bodhi.
