Toledo, OH
Tom W. Jahns, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and dedicated professional, passed away on March 12, 2026, in his hometown of Toledo, Ohio, the city where his life journey began on March 12, 1949. A man of quiet strength and deep care, Tom leaves behind a legacy marked by his unwavering commitment to family and his passion for motorsports.
Born and raised in Toledo, Tom was largely self-taught and admired for his remarkable abilities and keen intellect. He attended Owens College to further his knowledge in his chosen trade and later shared his expertise by teaching classes there. His career began at the Chrysler Machining Plant in Perrysburg, where he honed his skills before advancing to CNC Parish Power Products. Tom's professional journey culminated as the head process engineer at Toth Industries Inc., a role he held with distinction until his retirement in 2016.
Tom's pride and greatest joy came from building and racing go-karts, an activity he cherished especially with his sons and grandchildren. His love of motorsports and hands-on creativity reflected his spirit—steadfast, resourceful, and focused on speed and precision. These pursuits were not only hobbies but also a meaningful way he bonded with his family, creating joyful memories that will be treasured forever, such as his trip to the Daytona 500 with Tom, Dan, and Dylan.
Family was central to Tom's life. He and his beloved wife Henrietta (Henrie) shared 57 years of marriage, a partnership that inspired their entire family. Together, they enjoyed countless family trips and vacations, including lively casino trips to Las Vegas, where they met many kind friends along the way. They also loved riding their Goldwing together, logging more than 250,000 miles on two different motorcycles. Tom was a deeply loving and responsible man, known for helping anyone in need, and possessed a special tenderness for dogs and cats, including his family pets Ellie Mae and Beavis.
He is survived by his devoted wife Henrietta Jahns; his sons Tom Jahns II and his wife Paula, and Dan Jahns and his wife Jamie; and cherished grandchildren Dylan Jahns and his wife Morgan, Emily Reed and her husband Ryan, Jaelyn Prater with her significant other Jacob McClenathan, Kinsley Jahns and her significant other Michael Howe, Delanie Jahns, and Cooper Jahns. He took great pride in watching the successes of his descendants, including great-grandchildren Brylee Reed, Violet Jahns, and Sawyer Howe. Tom also leaves behind his brother Don Jahns and wife Cheryl, sister Barb Dunnagan and husband Kevin, godson Andy Dunnagan, brother-in-law Bob Anteau, and a large extended family of nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends who will all remember him fondly.
Tom was preceded in death by his daughter Angelica Jahns, son Randy Jahns, and great-grandsons Brantley and Brody Reed.
