Thomas N. Daniels Sr.

Thomas N. Daniels Sr.

August 15, 1955 March 7, 2026

Augusta, ME

Thomas N. Daniels Sr., affectionately known as Toma, passed away unexpectedly at home on March 7, 2026, at the age of 70. He died in the arms of his wife after an evening filled with good food, dancing, and the company of the love of his life. Born in Augusta, Maine, on August 15, 1955, Toma was the beloved son of Barbara D. Caldwell. He graduated from Cony High School in 1975 after attending Augusta schools and later MCI prep school. A gifted athlete, he played basketball and football and took great pride in being part of the Cony High School Basketball State Championship team in 1973.

Toma built a long career as a Union Electrician, working in nearly every mill across the state before retiring from CMP after more than 25 years of service. Retirement brought new adventures, and he happily became a “professional driver” at O’Connor’s Auto Park, where he made many new friends. Above all, Toma cherished his family. He married his high school sweetheart, Susan Lettre Daniels, barefoot on the beach in Old Orchard Beach in 1983. That special place remained dear to them, and they spent many summers there vacationing with their children.

He is survived by his wife Susan Lettre Daniels; his daughter Jasmine “Quag” Daniels; his son Thomas Daniels Jr. and wife Rita; and his two grandsons, Lincoln and Connor, who were the light of his life. He also leaves his mother, Barbara D. Caldwell; sisters Pam Schalger, Ann Minoty, Melinda and husband Scott Laliberte, Susan and husband Andre Houde, and Janet Caldwell. He was predeceased by his father figure Elliott Caldwell, his brother John Daniels, brother-in-law Gordon Schlager, and many close friends and family.

Toma lived with energy and heart. He worked hard and played just as hard, building lifelong friendships through Tuesday night gatherings, golf trips, bowling, camp outings, ice fishing, snowmobiling, backyard BBQs with his famous ribs, and late-night bonfires. He loved simple pleasures: garage beers, slow dancing in the kitchen, long drives, boating with Sue, hunting and fishing with his son and grandsons, watching sports, and most of all, having his entire family together. Deeply committed to youth sports, he coached and helped maintain fields, believing sports taught valuable life lessons and that every child deserved the chance to play.
