Thomas Mullis ObituaryPublished by Legacy Remembers on Mar. 15, 2026.Elon - Thomas Monford "Tommy" Mullis, 87, of Elon, North Carolina, passed away peacefully at his home on March 14, 2026 surrounded by his family.Born on January 31, 1939, in Alamance County, Tommy lived a full and independent life marked by hard work, strong convictions and deep love for his family. An engineer, economist, and entrepreneur, he built his career through self-employment, running MMG Heavy Moving, originally founded by his grandfather, Montford Maud Gerringer. He was respected for his knowledge of the textile industry and was occasionally invited to speak as a guest lecturer at NC State University. With a daughter and three grandchildren in the textile industry, he often shared stories, insight, and perspective from his own experience.Tommy graduated from Williams High School in Burlington, North Carolina, where he played baseball and earned a scholarship to William & Mary. He ultimately chose to stay local and graduated from Elon College, now Elon University. He also served in the National Guard and was a member of Ducks Unlimited. He will be remembered for the things he loved most: time on the water, boating, the beach, golf, Jimmy Buffett, and gathering family and friends at his home. Many knew him as a scratch golfer who loved the game as much as the banter that came with it. When he was not out playing golf, he was often watching it on television. Those who knew him understood him to be a man of passion and depth, someone whose presence was distinctly his own and whose life reflected both strength and individuality. He is survived by his daughters, Wendy Mullis Browne and husband Gerard Browne, Paige Mullis Enochs and husband Glenn Enochs, and Chalise Mullis; and by his grandchildren, Sarah and Sean Thomas Browne, and Ava, Doris, and Eleanor Enochs. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Nikki Mullis.A private family gathering will be held to celebrate his life. The family extends special thanks to our extended family and friends, caregivers Judy and Cathy, and the AuthoraCare Collective hospice team for their support and care during his illness.View All PhotosAdd Photos to MemorialTo plant trees in memory, please visit the Sympathy Store.
