Thomas G. Gardner

d. 2026

Scriba, NY

Thomas G. Gardner, 76, of Scriba, New York, passed away on March 6, 2026, after a courageous 15-year battle with cancer. Born in Potsdam, New York, to the late Maurice and Sharleen (Zeutzius) Gardner, Tom was a man of quiet integrity, kindness, and patience. He served six years in the United States Navy and later retired after 30 years as a Control Room Shift Operator at Nine Mile Unit One. He took great pride in his work and in his many skills as a craftsman, building countless cabinets and pieces of furniture, as well as constructing and remodeling his own home.

Tom was predeceased by his sister, Sandra Fox. He is survived by his devoted life partner of 24 years, Theresa Chalone of Scriba; his children, Andy (Betty) Gardner of Fulton and Julia Gardner of Florida; his siblings, Stuart Gardner of Canton and Charles Gardner of Penfield; his grandchildren, Emily and Andrew; and his bonus brother, Scott Vincent Barwood. He also leaves behind the entire Chalone family, his beloved dogs Elsa and Mia, and many dear friends from Fair Point Marina, where he spent cherished summers sailing on Lake Ontario.

The family extends heartfelt thanks to Dr. Christopher Pieczonka of AMP Urology, Dr. Sam Benjamin at Upstate Cancer, the team at Moffitt Cancer Center, and all those who worked tirelessly to provide additional treatments that allowed Tom more precious time with those he loved.
