Grand Rapids, MI
Thomas Frank Bandyk passed away peacefully on March 11, 2026. Tom was born December 21, 1942, in Bay City, Michigan to Frank and Stephanie Bandyk. He grew up attending St. Agnes' and St. Michael's Catholic Church in Pinconning, Michigan. Tom graduated from Ferris State University. He spent most of his adult life in the Grand Rapids, Michigan area, where he built a beautiful life centered around family, kindness, and community. Tom is survived by his beloved wife, Suellen Bandyk; his brothers Dennis (Kelley), David (Suzan), and Mark (Elizabeth) Bandyk; and his children, Steve Bandyk and Jennifer Bandyk. He was a loving grandfather to Conner Bandyk and Lindsay Bandyk, who brought him endless joy. He reminded them often how proud he was of them. Grand Rapids was the place Tom called home for most of his life, and it was there that he built the family he loved so deeply. Family meant everything to him, and he never missed an opportunity to support, encourage, and spend time with those he cared about. Tom had a deep love for travel, and especially enjoyed traveling with his children and grandchildren. He cherished seeing the beauty of the world and experiencing different cultures, but he often reminded those around him that the true gift of any journey was the people you share it with. Whether near or far, the memories made together were what mattered most to him.Known for his warm smile and contagious laugh, Tom was kind to every stranger he met. Even in the most difficult moments, he remained positive and encouraged others to look around and appreciate the many things they had to be grateful for. Tom was a lifelong lover and supporter of the arts, especially music. He dedicated decades of his life volunteering in particular with the Grand Rapids Symphony, Opera Grand Rapids, Grand Rapids Choir of Men and Boys, and Fountain Street Church. Serving his community brought him great joy, and he was always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone who needed it. Tom believed in living in the moment and truly taking in the beauty of life as it happened. Above all, he showed us the importance of kindness, gratitude, family, and embracing the present. His legacy lives on in the hearts of his family and all who were fortunate enough to know him. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered. There are no formal services planned per Tom's wishes. A private family service will take place at a later date.
