Connersville, IN
Thomas D. Powers, 76, of Connersville, passed away on March 13, 2026. Born on November 25, 1949, in Richmond to Thomas E. Powers and Anna Mae Runyon Powers, he was a proud veteran who served 27 years in the United States Army and the National Guard, attaining the rank of Major. He often referred to himself as “Major Dad,” delivering the title with a sly smile and a warm laugh that reflected his enduring sense of humor.
On November 22, 1997, Thomas married Vickie Bachmann in Connersville, and together they shared 28 years of marriage. He attended Community Gospel Church and was formerly a member of Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church, where he cherished singing in the choir. A longtime member of the American Legion, Amvets, and the Moose, he worked at Meg in Cambridge City and at Roots in Connersville, and spent many years building fences throughout the surrounding communities. In his younger days, Thomas enjoyed bowling in several leagues, and he remained an avid IU fan who loved playing and coaching baseball, golfing, singing, and listening to music. Above all, he was known for his wit and his genuine respect for everyone he met. His greatest joy came from time spent with his family.
He is survived by his loving wife, Vickie; his daughter, Amy (Trent) Deer; his son, Thomas Shane Powers; three grandchildren, Conner Deer, Cole Deer, and Zach Powers; and his sisters, Dana Tenselle, Carol Doss, and Kelly R. Powers. He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Opal Lynn Powers.
