Born on January 24, 1935, in Cincinnati, Ohio, Tom lived a life defined by dedication to his family, faith, and community.A talented carpenter by trade, Tom built a remarkable legacy through his hard work and entrepreneurial spirit. In 1976, he founded Kern Construction and later established Island Lumber and Hardware in 1982. He successfully operated the business until his retirement in 2010. His craftsmanship and commitment to excellence left a lasting impression on the community he served.Tom shared an extraordinary 71 years of marriage with his beloved wife, Eleanor. Together they raised four children: Lynne Dekowski (Stanley), Michael Kern (Brenda), Jerry Kern (Betsy), and Becky Kern-Garbus. He was a proud grandfather to Jen Tyrrell (Ricky), Kim Edwards (Ryan), Kelli Jankovich (Gideon), Joey Garbus (Savannah), and Kiana Kern. His joy extended further with great-grandchildren Jordan Garbus, Tessa Tyrrell, Logan, Taylor, Ryleigh and Natalie Edwards. Tom's devotion to his family was unwavering; he cherished supporting his children's activities and creating countless memories with loved ones.Beyond his professional achievements and family life, Tom found joy in the outdoors. He was an avid hunter, boater, and fisherman who also loved traveling and spending time in the Smoky Mountains. These hobbies reflected his appreciation for nature's beauty and adventurous spirit.A devout member of St. Bernard Catholic Church since moving to Anna Maria in 1966, Tom served as an usher for many years. His faith was a cornerstone of his life and guided him in all that he did.Tom was predeceased by his parents Myron Kern and Marie Kern; his stepmother Stella Kern; and his brothers William Kern and Charles Kern. He will be remembered fondly as a caring, hardworking man who was deeply loved by family and friends alike.A Funeral Mass will be held on March 16, 2026, at 11:00 AM at St. Bernard Catholic Church, 248 S Harbor Dr., Holmes Beach, Florida. Visitation will begin at 10:00 AM.
