Thomas C. "Tommy" Sol

Thomas C. "Tommy" Sol

February 5, 1972 March 8, 2026

Manhattan, KS

Thomas Carl Sol was born on February 5, 1972, in Ames, Iowa, to Marcia Grieshaber Sol and the late Jose Luis Sol. He passed away on March 8, 2026, at the age of 54.

Tommy attended Manhattan Catholic Schools and graduated from Manhattan High School in 1990, where he played football for Coach Lew Lane. He continued his education and love of football at Highland Community College on scholarship, Emporia State University, and Kansas State University, earning his degree in 1996.

Finding his true passion in the kitchen, he built a successful career as a chef, working at the Belton Missouri Country Club, 75 Main in Long Island, New York, restaurants in Portland, Oregon, and several establishments in San Juan, Puerto Rico. Known for his big smile, generous heart, and deep love for his dog, Tommy later settled in Steamboat Springs, Colorado, to learn upholstery before returning to Manhattan to open his own shop. For eleven years he was inseparable from his beloved yellow lab, Billy, whom he lost on May 11, 2025. A man who believed in sharing what he loved, Tommy regularly prepared and delivered home-cooked meals to neighbors and those in need.

He is survived by his mother, Marcia of Manhattan; sisters Deanne (Mark) Redman of Brentwood, Alabama, and Brenda Sol of Manhattan; brothers Joe of Manhattan and Tony of Cottonwood Falls, Kansas; and ten nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father and his brother Michael Patrick Sol.
