Theresa M. Gonyer

Theresa “Tess” M. Gonyer, age 69, of Wayne, Ohio, passed away peacefully on March 12, 2026, surrounded by her loving family at Wood County Hospital in Bowling Green. Born on October 13, 1956, in Adrian, Michigan, to the late Richard and Norma (Vanzandt) Potts, she graduated from Adrian High School in 1974. On October 17, 1987, she married Terry L. Gonyer in Adrian, Michigan.

Tess was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother whose greatest joy came from spending time with her family. She is survived by her husband, Terry; her children, Craig Gonyer, Allison (Anthony) Gump, and John Gonyer, all of Wayne; her stepdaughter, Brandi Gonyer-Fuller; her grandsons, Landon and Lucas Gump; and her siblings, Terry Potts, Steve Potts, and Barb (Gerry) Butts.

A long-time employee of Elmwood Local Schools, Tess began as a librarian aide and student aide before becoming the elementary technology teacher. She was a former member of the Wayne Park Board and an active member of the Church of the Good Shepherd near Wayne, where she taught Sunday School, helped with children’s church, and participated in Vacation Bible School. She found deep pleasure in gardening, taking walks with her family, and cheering for her beloved Michigan Wolverines. She will be remembered for her favorite saying, “Love family, love God, and Go Blue!”

She was preceded in death by her parents, Richard and Norma Potts.
