Terry L. Ries

June 7, 1941 March 12, 2026

Sunbury, PA

Terry Lee Ries, 84, of Sunbury, passed away in the early morning hours of March 12, 2026. Born on June 7, 1941, to Alfred and Dorothy (Reitz) Ries, Terry graduated from Sunbury High School in 1959 and attended Williamsport Area Community College, where he studied drafting. He worked as a draftsman at Kennedy Van Saun and later for Wood Metal Industries until his retirement.

Terry married Carol Rohrbach and together they raised their son, Terry L. Ries, Jr. For the next forty years, he shared his life with his loving companion, Cheryl Darrah. With Cheryl and her son Matthew, he enjoyed many adventures attending train shows, flea markets, and Special Olympic events. An avid collector of American Flyer trains and a life member of the Train Collectors Association, Terry particularly cherished trips to the train shows in York with his brothers, Fred and Rod. He also found joy in restoring Corvairs, and he was known as a jack of all trades who could fix anything around the home.

He is survived by his companion Cheryl Darrah and her son Matthew, his son Terry L. Ries Jr. and wife Brenda (Shambach) Ries, grandchildren Brandi and her fiancé Kevin of Harrisburg, and Andrew and his wife Corey and their four children of Ephrata. He is also survived by his brothers Rodney and wife Maureen Ries of Selinsgrove, Fred and wife Sue of Mt. Vernon, New Hampshire, his sister Pat and Morgan Reynolds of Hot Springs, Arkansas, and several nieces and nephews.

Terry will be remembered as a devoted family man, a passionate collector, and a steady, capable presence in the lives of all who knew him.
