Gouverneur, NY

Terry Alguire, age 78, of Gouverneur, passed away on March 9, 2026, at Canton Potsdam Hospital surrounded by his family.

Born in Gouverneur on August 29, 1947, Terry was the son of Cecil and Catherine (Hart) Alguire. He graduated from Gouverneur Central School in 1968 and spent his working life as a skilled body shop technician. He worked for Dodds Motor Corporation, Paul Beckstead, and Seaker & Graves Chevrolet before opening his own business, Terry’s Body Shop, which served the Gouverneur area for many years.

He is survived by his longtime fiancée of more than 40 years, Sandy Martin; his children, Dawn Brondo-Alguire of Laredo, Texas, and Brayton Alguire of Gouverneur; Sandy’s children, Faith and Chad Martin; his brother, Steven (Jessie) Alguire of Mexico, New York; his sister, Sheila (Steve) Reddick of Gouverneur; twelve grandchildren; and ten great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his son, Terry Alguire Jr., his sister and brother-in-law Christine and Edward Meashaw, and his brother Kenneth Alguire.

Terry cherished his daily morning coffee gatherings at the Gouverneur McDonald’s with his “morning family,” where he enjoyed lively conversation. A member of the CB club, he found joy in poker, bowling, fishing, hunting, camping, gardening, and especially riding his motorcycle, often with Sandy by his side. True to his wishes, a celebration of life was held on July 25, 2025, at the Gouverneur Community Center, giving him the chance to share one final gathering of laughter, tears, and good food with the people he loved.
