Fort Smith, AR
Tarus Johnson, lovingly known as “TJ,” of Fort Smith, Arkansas, passed away on March 9, 2026. Born on October 25, 1971, in Fort Smith to Lanita Johnson (Newton) and the late Pete Johnson, TJ grew up in his hometown and graduated from Northside High School. He devoted more than twenty years of his working life to Tyson Foods, where his hard work and steady commitment were widely respected.
TJ’s greatest joy came from his family. He cherished every moment spent with them and took special delight in barbecuing for gatherings, creating warm memories that brought everyone together. He also held a deep love for animals and found quiet satisfaction in caring for his dogs, chickens, and fish. Those who knew him will remember his loving heart, his unwavering dedication to family, and the gentle, lasting impact he made on everyone fortunate enough to share in his life.
He is survived by his mother, Lanita Faye Johnson; his significant other, Cristina Miller; his children, Samarah Johnson, Lailyah Johnson, Lachelle Johnson, and Seth Kursh; his six grandchildren, Xzavius Howard, Sanayah Johnston, Aubrianah Johnston, Kyrin Oliver, Kylah Oliver, and Kynlee Oliver; and his siblings, Quincy Johnson, Lashundra Stepter, and Vonjay Johnson. He is also survived by his nieces, Briannah Johnson, Alyssah Johnson, and Lashanti Johnson; his nephews, Shakor Johnson and Jermarious Johnson; his great-nephew, Grayson Lindsey; and his great-nieces, Harlow Lindsey and Amarrah Tillman.
Tarus was preceded in death by his father, Pete Johnson.
