Tammy Marie Matthews

Scottsburg, IN

Tammy Marie Matthews, 62, of Scottsburg, Indiana, passed away on March 4, 2026, surrounded by her husband and sons at her home.

Born on August 13, 1963, in Seymour, Indiana, to Granville and Lois (Roberts) Morris, Tammy grew up in Austin, Indiana. She came to faith in Jesus during high school and later attended Indiana State University, where she met her husband, Bryan Matthews, at the Baptist Student Union. They married on May 26, 1984, in Scottsburg and began their life together in Lake Jackson, Texas. Tammy completed her degree in Elementary Education with a minor in Special Education at the University of Houston-Clear Lake and taught first and second grade before becoming a stay-at-home mother.

Tammy and Bryan lived in Stade and Halle, Germany; Midland, Michigan; and Hulst, Netherlands, raising their three sons—Tyler Granville, Logan Ryan, and Dylan Parker—while actively serving in their local church. A woman of deep faith, she led home Bible studies, discipled young women, and found joy in meditating on Scripture. Known for her discernment, genuine care for others, and warm smile, Tammy later served at the Life Clinic Pregnancy Resource Center in Midland, where she supported young mothers and their children with compassion and grace.

In 2021, Tammy and Bryan returned to Scottsburg, Indiana. She delighted in creating a welcoming home, decorating for holidays, and gathering with family. She cherished her role as grandmother to her seven grandchildren and loved spending time with her sister, daughters-in-law, and extended family. An avid traveler, she enjoyed visiting her sons’ families in Arizona, New Jersey, and Kentucky.

After a three-year battle with pancreatic cancer, Tammy was called home. She is survived by her husband of nearly 42 years, Bryan Matthews; her sons and daughters-in-law, Tyler (Jordan) Matthews, Logan (Laura) Matthews, and Dylan (Jessica) Matthews; her seven grandchildren, Landon, Brooke, and Harper; Ezra, Maisy, Owen, and Madison; her sister, Debby Wilson; and her brother, Darrell (Kathy) Morris. She was preceded in death by her parents and her infant brother, Monte Morris.
