June 18, 1942— March 11, 2026
Tullahoma, TN
Sylvia Jean Evans, born June 18, 1942, in White County, Tennessee, to J.B. and Mary Cynthia Duncan, passed away on March 11, 2026, surrounded by her devoted family.
A graduate of Tullahoma High School, Jean married the love of her life, Vernon Evans, on July 18, 1959. Their marriage spanned 66 joyful years. She began her career in the mail room at First National Bank, advancing to teller and then to Senior Vice President. Determined and hardworking, she earned an associate degree from Motlow College and continued her education, most proudly obtaining her LSU Banking Degree. Deeply committed to her community, she served as President of the Kiwanis Club, working with the Head Start program out of her love for children, and sat on the board of the Tullahoma Senior Citizens.
Jean was a loving wife and mother. In September 1968, she and Vernon welcomed their daughter, Gina Lee Evans. A woman of strong faith, she was baptized into the Grundy Street Church of Christ, where she remained a devoted member. In her later years, her greatest joy was being “Mimi” to her grandsons Evan and Seth, whom she spoiled with grandmotherly affection. She also cherished her beloved Schnauzer, Mr. Wilson, and was known for her impeccable style, especially her signature love of pink and anything that sparkled.
Jean was preceded in death by her parents, J.B. and Mary Cynthia Duncan, her aunts and uncles, her grandparents, and her grandson Carson Davis. She is survived by her husband Vernon Evans; daughter Gina (Russ) Davis; grandsons Evan (Lauren) Davis and Seth Davis; brothers Johnnie (Joyce) Duncan, Ronnie Duncan, and Phil (Charlotte) Duncan; nieces and nephews; cousins; and special family members Chick (Kristi) Knitter, Edie, Trent, and Trevor Burton. She lived with purpose and passion, never met a stranger, cared deeply for others, and faced every challenge with intelligence and spirit. Her vibrant presence and fiery personality will be profoundly missed.
