In Loving Memory of Sylvia Bertrand

Today we honor and remember the life of Sylvia Bertrand, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and sister, who was called to Heaven on March 11th, 2026, in Metairie, La. at the age of 77. Sylvia was born on September 1st, 1948 in Thibodaux, La. To Alex Bergeron and Marion Trauth Bergeron. She enjoyed a long career as a bus driver for St. Charles Parish Schools where she later retired. Sylvia lived a life defined by love, strength, and devotion to her family and friends. Her warm heart and gentle spirit touched everyone fortunate enough to know her.

Sylvia had a special way of making others feel welcome and cared for. Whether through a kind word, a thoughtful gesture, or simply her presence, she brought comfort and joy to those around her. She valued family above all else and cherished the time spent creating memories with the people she loved most.

She is lovingly remembered by her family who survive her: her son, Jesse Bertrand and his wife Yoly Bertrand; her stepdaughter, Melissa Bertrand; her grandson, David Bertrand; and her granddaughter, Madeline Claire Bertrand. She is also survived by her siblings, Freddie Bergeron; Wanda Bergeron and her husband Jack; Donald Bergeron and his wife Iris; and Ray Bergeron.

Sylvia was preceded in death by those who welcomed her into eternal rest: her parents, Marion Trauth Bergeron and Alex Bergeron; her beloved husband, Joseph Harold Bertrand; her son, Frank James Bertrand; her brother, Wallace “Buddy” Bergeron; and her sister-in-law, Barbara Simpson Bergeron, Alice B. Bergeron, Juanita Martin Bergeron and Jackie Prestenbach.

Sylvia’s life was a beautiful example of compassion, resilience, and unconditional love. Though she may no longer walk beside us, her memory will live on in the hearts of her family and friends. The love she shared and the lessons she taught will continue to guide those who knew her.

She will be deeply missed, forever loved, and never forgotten.

Visitation will be from 9:00 am until 11:00 am on Saturday, March 21, 2026 at Des Allemands Mennonite Church. Funeral services will be celebrated at 11:00 am with burial to follow in the Mennonite Cemetery.

Falgout Funeral Home is entrusted with arrangements.

“Those we love never truly leave us; they live on in the kindness they shared, the love they gave, and the memories we hold dear.”
