Sushil Chokshi ObituaryObituary published on Legacy.com by Forest Ridge Funeral Home-Memorial Park Chapel on Mar. 16, 2026.Sushil B. Chokshi, M.D.December 20, 1940 - March 14, 2026 (age 85)Dr. Sushil B. Chokshi passed away peacefully on Saturday March 14, 2026 at the age of 85.He was born on December 20, 1940 in Baroda, India. He graduated from Baroda Medical School in 1964, and then moved to Queens, NY to pursue a residency in general surgery. During residency, he met and married his wife, Alka. Together they moved to Seneca Falls, NY where he began his practice as a general surgeon. In 1980, they made the decision to move their family to Texas, first to Ranger, TX and ultimately to Jacksboro, TX.Dr. Chokshi was a dedicated, committed and key member of the Jacksboro medical community for almost 40 years, where he was a general practitioner in private practice. In addition, he served as the medical director for two local nursing homes, was on staff at the local hospital, and in the final years of his career served as the Chief Medical Officer of Faith Community Hospital. As one of the local town doctors, he was widely respected by the community for his loving care.He was equally steadfast in his commitment to family. Although separated by great distance, he remained close with his brother and sister throughout his life, always grateful for the sacrifices they made to enable him to come to the United States. His choices in life were always with family in mind, making it a priority to spend as much time as possible with his children, his grandchildren, and his nieces and nephews. In 2010, he and his wife moved to Benbrook, TX to be closer to their many friends and family.Sushil was an extremely likable person, defined by his unshakable authenticity. Family, friends, and patients alike loved him for his easy-going and quiet nature, his charming-and often quirky-witticisms, and the strong principles that made him wonderfully generous and fair. We will dearly miss his steady and gentle presence, and his unique ability to always be true to himself while remaining exceptionally giving and kind.Dr. Chokshi is survived by his wife, Alka Chokshi; his children, Hetal Kocinsky (husband Daniel Kocinsky) and Nehal Chokshi (wife Hoan Lieu); his four grandchildren, Sona Kocinsky, Leela Kocinsky, Dean Chokshi, and Ella Chokshi; as well as his brother, Sudhir Chokshi (wife Mala Chokshi), and his sister, Smita Parikh. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made in Dr. Chokshi's memory to Ekal Vidyalaya, an organization long-supported by Dr. Chokshi and his wife.A link to be able to livestream funeral services will be available shortly:To plant trees in memory, please visit the Sympathy Store.
