Susan Yerkes, 88, of Beech Grove, Indiana, passed away on March 15, 2026, at Altenheim Family First Senior Living.
Born on January 15, 1938, in Mishawaka, Indiana, to Dorothy and Kenneth Robinson, Susan spent her life rooted in the community where she was raised. On June 15, 1958, she married William “Bill” Yerkes at First United Methodist Church in Mishawaka. Together they raised two daughters and shared a marriage filled with travel and simple joys. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Bill, and her identical twin sister, Sally Nasco.
Susan was a lifelong member of First United Methodist Church. She found great pleasure in crafting, interior decorating, and collecting dolls and teddy bears. She especially loved the color pink and the Christmas season. An avid knitter, she made countless hats for family, friends, and grandchildren, and lovingly included her handmade items in mission-care packages sent abroad. She and Bill enjoyed memorable trips together to the Bahamas, Canada, Russia, New York, and various cities across the United States.
Susan is survived by her daughters, Debra Reed of Beech Grove and Dawn (Timothy) Edwards of Memphis, Tennessee; grandchildren Terry Allen “TJ” (Kristen) Reed Jr., Jennifer Mutz-Reed, Melissa (Nicholas) Barnhart, Jessica (Jeremy) Dolan, and Rachel Edwards; and great-grandchildren Scarlett Jo Reed, Vincent William Reed, Zayde Stewart, Edwards Scott Barnhart, Evangeline Anne Barnhart, Eleanor Nina Dolan, and Leo Frank Dolan.
