Susan Harvin ObituaryObituary published on Legacy.com by Bullock Funeral Home & Crematorium on Mar. 10, 2026.Susan Ryckeley Harvin of Fredericksburg, Virginia, and Columbia, South Carolina, passed away peacefully on March 7th, 2026 after a courageous battle with cancer.The daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Edwin Ryckeley. Susan is survived by her devoted husband of 52 years, John Roland Harvin, Jr.; her sons, Christopher M. Harvin (Emma) of Washington, D.C., and Andrew S. Harvin of Fredericksburg, Virginia; and her cherished grandchildren, Wilkins Harvin of Washington, D.C., and Corinne E. Harvin and Caralyn M. Harvin of Chesapeake, Virginia.She is also survived by her sister, Jane Ryckeley Perry of Columbia, South Carolina; her nieces, Lisa Perry Hill (Danny) of Florence, South Carolina, and Amy Perry Price (Derrick) of Gilbert, South Carolina; and her great-nephews, Oliver and Rutledge Price of Lexington, South Carolina; and she will be deeply missed by her extended family to include all of the Harvins, Fehns, Lerchs, and Howells; as well as by her beloved chocolate retriever, Cassie, and grand-dog goldendoodle, Leo.A native of Columbia, South Carolina, Susan attended St. Joseph Catholic School, A.C. Flora High School, and the University of South Carolina. She was a devoted sports fan and took great pride in supporting her Gamecock alma mater. She began her career at St. Joseph School, dedicating her time supporting its students and community, and remained an active member of St. Joseph's Church until relocating to Virginia. After relocating to Virginia, Susan devoted more than 25 years to the University of Mary Washington University's Alumni Relations office in Fredericksburg, leaving a lasting impact on colleagues and students alike.Susan's life was defined by devotion and service to her family, her students, and her community. She nurtured her husband, sons, grandchildren, and countless rescue puppies over the years, exemplifying a quiet generosity that touched everyone she met. Known for embracing the philosophy of Random Acts of Kindness, she sought ways to brighten the days of those around her, and she never met a stranger. Among her many endearing habits, she ensured every glass had a coaster, always accompanied by her warm smile.A woman of deep faith and civic engagement, Susan was a member of St. Mary of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Fredericksburg. Her dedication to history and service was reflected through her membership in The Junior League of Columbia, Forest Lake Club, The Columbia Ball, First Families of South Carolina, The South Carolina Huguenot Society, Fredericksburg Chapter #163 of the United Daughters of the Confederacy, and the Colonial Dames of the XVII Century. Susan was also a devoted and active member of the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution (NSDAR), serving four terms as Regent of The Falls of the Rappahannock Chapter, NSDAR and as past Vice Director of Virginia District IX.A memorial service in honor of Susan will be held at 2:00 p.m. on March 13, 2026, at St. Mary of the Immaculate Conception Roman Catholic Church in Fredericksburg, Virginia.A funeral Mass will take place at 12:00 p.m. on March 27, 2026, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Columbia, South Carolina, with interment to follow at Fort Jackson National Cemetery at 2:00 p.m. the same day.In lieu of flowers, those wishing to honor Susan's memory are encouraged to perform a Random Act of Kindness.
