Susan Lynne Steedman Obituary March 7, 2026 - Bush River Funeral Home
Columbia, SC
Susan Lynne Steedman, born January 20, 1958, in Akron, Ohio, passed away quietly in her sleep at home the morning of March 8, 2026. Her parents, Marilyn J Miss, a lifelong educator, and Dr O. Vincent W. Masters, obstetrician/gynecologist and WWII aviator, raised their family (including her three brothers, Michael, Martin, and Matthew Masters) in southern California. After graduating from the University of California, Los Angeles with a bachelors in Psychobiology, Susan made her way to Charleston, SC, where she met and married Dr. John Steedman, PhD, MD, a native of Watford, England, in 1987. She then received her degree in Pharmacy from the Medical University of South Carolina, and began her career in Hospital Pharmacy at MUSC, and from 2000, the G. Werber Bryan Psychiatric Hospital in Columbia where she worked as the Pharmacy Supervisor until retirement in 2024. One of the most joyous results of her and John's life has been the birth and life of their daughter Sarah Catherine Anne, now herself happily married and following in her mother's path as a clinical pharmacist in Asheville, NC. Susan was dedicated in service to Shandon Presbyterian Church, serving in countless ways including as elder, and most recently moderator of Shandon Presbyterian Women. Susan was also heavily committed to the appreciation and creation of good music – she was an accomplished clarinetist who shared her talents throughout her life, from her time in high school band up to her position as principal clarinet with the Lake Murray Symphony Orchestra and playing in the Carolina Winds. Everyone Susan ever met has been struck by her intelligence, her poise, her constant dedication and, most especially, her relentlessly positive attitude which was always to the improvement and benefit of those around her.A memorial service will be held 2:00 pm on Friday, March 13, 2026, at Shandon Presbyterian Church in Columbia, SC, 607 Woodrow St, Columbia, SC 29205. Memorial contributions may be made to Shandon Presbyterian Church's Lindler Fund or Pastor's Fund, or to Lake Murray Symphony Orchestra, PO Box 1093, Irmo, SC, 29063.
