Susan Moyer ObituaryObituary published on Legacy.com by Billings Funeral Home - Woodward on Mar. 4, 2026.Susan Gail Moyer, age 65, passed away at home in Woodward, Oklahoma on Monday, March 2, 2026. A beloved sister, aunt, teacher, and friend. Susan left an incredible mark on her community through her lifetime of teaching and her deeply caring spirit.Born on November 28, 1960, at Shattuck Hospital, Susan was the daughter of William Ashley "Bill" and Minnie Lavonne (Drake) Moyer. She grew up on the family farm north of Gage, attended Waller Junior High in Enid, and graduated from Gage High School in 1979. Driven by a lifelong passion for learning, she earned her Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education from Northwestern Oklahoma State University (NWOSU) and later received a Master in Education Administration from Southwestern State University (SWOSU).A dedicated educator for over 35 years, Susan began her career teaching music and various subjects at Garrett School while living in Beaver. She then spent 14 years teaching math at Waukomis Middle School. In January 2005, she joined Woodward Public Schools, where she continued teaching math.Susan was the consummate professional, actively serving as an officer in her local chapter of Professional Oklahoma Educators (POE). Her exceptional dedication was recognized statewide when she received the Middle School-Junior High Educator Merit Award from the POE Foundation. To her students, she was strict but approachable, balancing clear expectations with a famously contagious laugh. She believed in her students before they believed in themselves, often serving as a devoted mentor who changed the trajectory of their lives.Outside the classroom, Susan lived a vibrant and full life. She found immense joy in playing piano, going to aerobics class, and staying current with fashion and health. She was an enthusiastic concertgoer, finding a lifelong favorite in Aerosmith. She loved sharing this rock-and-roll spirit, taking her nephew Chris to his first concert in 1997 - a night that inspired his own lifelong passion for music. The following year, a canceled Aerosmith show in Ohio pivoted into a cherished family adventure touring the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland. Her love of travel also took her across Europe in 2010. Inspired by one of her favorite movies, she had her own "Eat, Pray, Love" moments at the Trevi Fountain in Rome, and explored her family roots in Ancona, Italy. Above all, she was fiercely devoted to her family, having spent many years as the loving caregiver for her mother.Susan was preceded in death by her parents, Bill and Lavonne Moyer. She is survived by her sisters, Janet Moyer and Carol Thompsen and husband Jim. She leaves behind three nephews, one niece, their respective children, and a cherished circle of extended family, friends, and colleagues. Her legacy will live on in the thousands of students whose hearts and minds she helped shape.A graveside interment service will be held on Thursday, March 12, 2026, at 11:00 am at the Gage Cemetery in Gage, Oklahoma.
