February 4, 1961— March 7, 2026
Dover, DE
Susan Eileen Walls, née Lyons, was born on February 4, 1961, in Summit, New Jersey, to Thomas Lyons Jr. and Roberta Alma Lyons, née Chammings. She passed away on March 7, 2026, at Bayhealth Medical Center. Raised in New Jersey, Susan graduated from Summit Senior High School with the class of 1979.
After high school, she enlisted in the United States Air Force. Following basic and technical training in Texas, she was stationed at Dover Air Force Base, then at Elmendorf Air Force Base in Alaska for five years, and later at Grand Forks Air Force Base in North Dakota for four more years. She was honorably discharged with the rank of Staff Sergeant. In 1990, Susan returned to Delaware and began a long career in civil service at Dover Air Force Base, eventually serving as Chief Director of Community Relations for the 436th Air Mobility Command for 18 years. She later worked for the State of Delaware until retiring due to chronic health issues.
In retirement, Susan volunteered for several community organizations. She found joy in pottery, cross-stitch, scrapbooking, and especially photography. A devoted fan of country music, she particularly loved the Oak Ridge Boys and attended many of their concerts with her son, Brad. Her happiest memories centered on family trips to Walt Disney World and travels with him.
Susan was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas Lyons Jr. and Roberta A. Lyons, and her brother, Terence P. Lyons. She is survived by her son, Brad Alexander Walls of Cheswold, Delaware; her siblings, Thomas Lyons III of Davie, Florida, James Lyons and his wife Cathy of New Holland, Pennsylvania, and Roberta M. Lyons of Dover, Delaware; her ex-husband, James Walls and his partner David; a host of nieces, nephews, grandnieces, and grandnephews; and her close friend and son’s godfather, Mark Swingen.
