De Soto, MO

Susan Dian Heuer, born on May 26, 1952, in Cadet, Missouri, passed away on March 10, 2026. A woman of deep compassion and unwavering dedication, Susan spent many years teaching in the Kingston K-14 school district, where her genuine affection for children made her a beloved teacher, mentor, and friend to generations of students. She also shared her passion for education at St. Joachim Parish School and St. Rose of Lima, touching young lives with her warmth and kindness.

On July 5, 1969, Susan married Henry Heuer, beginning a devoted partnership that lasted 56 years. Together they raised their family on their beloved farm, creating a life rooted in love, hard work, and the rhythms of rural Missouri. Susan found great joy in crocheting, reading, tending to her cows, raking hay, and participating in the local farmers’ market, where her friendly spirit welcomed everyone she met. Her grandchildren were the light of her life, and she cherished every moment spent with them.

Susan’s proudest role was that of a loving mother and grandmother. She nurtured her family with strength and tenderness, leaving behind a legacy of love that will endure through the generations.

She is survived by her daughters Tina Thurman (Don) of Fredericktown, Missouri, Jennifer Boyster (Tony) of De Soto, Missouri, and Suzanne Merklin (Justin) of Hillsboro, Missouri; her son Steve Heuer of De Soto, Missouri; her siblings Cindy Goff (Joe), Linda Coleman, and Jim Merseal (Angie), all of De Soto, Missouri; her grandchildren Luther (Jordan), Dylan, Lucy (Tyler), Henry, Lily, Kelseton (Branden), Wyatt (Emily), Judson, Hadley, Jace, and Reid; and her great-grandchildren Addison, Isabelle, Elena, Audrey, Amelia, Bryson, Emmalinn, Rouger, Sterling, and Mateo. She was preceded in death by her son Ted Heuer, her parents Edna (Robart) Merseal and James William Merseal, and her great-granddaughter Willow.
