Susan Daniel Hammond, a resident of Cleburne, Texas, for 75 years, peacefully passed away at home on March 12, 2026, after a very brief illness. Susan was born in San Angelo, Texas, to James T. and Lillian Daniel on November 5, 1942. She graduated from Cleburne High School, Class of ’61. Susan went on to attend Texas Tech and TCU.
Susan loved all animals, traveling, photography, and going to the family cabin in Colorado. Even though her travels took her all over the world, Yellowstone National Park was her favorite place to go. Susan always looked forward to attending the annual “Hen” party with her childhood/ high school friends. She loved her front porch! Sitting on it, looking out at the oak trees, petting her animals, watching the birds, and watching the neighbor’s cattle, horse, and mule walk by brought her such happiness.
Those who knew Susan’s children, Audrey and Tommy, knew that her home was always open to everyone. The doors at the “Loma Alta” house were rarely locked. She never minded friends running in and out or the house being full of laughter and noise. Susan treated Audrey and Tommy’s friends as if they were her own.
Susan is preceded in death by her parents, James T. and Lillian Daniel. She is survived by her children, Audrey (Steve) Kissik and Tommy Hammond; four grandchildren, Brandi (Andrew Carroll) Praytor, Jeremy (Caitlyn) Praytor, Adam Hammond and Michelle Kissik; three great-grandchildren, Charlotte, Emersyn and Brazos; two brothers, Tommy (Karen) Daniel and William (Ann) Daniel; and nieces, nephews, and extended family.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to Nurse Practitioner Janet Jowitt, Dr. Meelhuysen, Caring Senior Service of Johnson County, AlevCare Hospice, and the wonderful nursing staff in the Justin Tower, Harris Hospital (Downtown), 6th Floor, for the compassion, care, and kindness they showed Susan and her family during this time.
