Susan Boyer ObituaryObituary published on Legacy.com by Bates Funeral Chapel - Oskaloosa on Mar. 14, 2026.Sue Boyer, 79, of Lake Keomah, Iowa, died Wednesday, March 12, 2026, at the Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines. She was born on September 7, 1946, in rural Carroll County, Iowa. She was the daughter of Carl and Verna Dobson Schumacher. Sue graduated from Coon Rapids High School with the class of 1964. Following high school, she attended Iowa State University, where she met and married Robert Heinsen. To this union, two children were born: Steven and Barbara. Sue and Robert later divorced. Sue devoted her time to caring for her family and home. She was a dedicated mother that always volunteered to help with her children's activities. As her children grew up, she re-entered the workforce. She worked as an associate at a pre-school for a few years. Later, she took a job managing the front office of a dental practice in Ankeny, Iowa. On November 30, 1996, she was united in marriage to Larry Boyer of Des Moines. The two of them built their home at Lake Keomah, Iowa and moved to the lake in 2003. Upon moving to Oskaloosa, she was offered the front office manager position of the newly opened Town Square Dental. She managed the front office there until her retirement. Care. She retired from Town Square in 2013. She was always very active in the church choir and musical programs. Sue was always an active member of the church she attended. She enjoyed ballroom dancing with Larry, especially if it was on a cruise. She enjoyed extensive travel, especially trips to Europe and cruises. She was a talented baker and was known for her lemon cookies and Gooseberry pies for Larry and apple pie for Mike Sytsma, (Larry's boss at Bates.)Her family includes her husband of nearly 30 years Larry Boyer of Lake Keomah; 3 children, Rev. Steve Heinsen of Enumclaw, Washington; Barb (Ben) Koehn of Cedar Rapids and Ryan (Kelly) of Eden Prairie, Minnesota; 3 grandchildren, Jacob, Evan and Fallon; a brother, Rich (Deb) Schumacher of Panora, Iowa; a brother in law, Gerry Halterman of Jefferson, Iowa; and many nephews.Sue was preceded in death by her parents; and a sister, Nancy Halterman.Funeral services will be held April 1, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. in the Trinity Lutheran Church in Knoxville, Iowa, with Pastor Joel Picard officiating. Private family burial will be in the Forest Cemetery in Oskaloosa at a later date. The Bates Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements. Visitation will open March 31, 2026, after 12 noon in the Bates Funeral Chapel in Oskaloosa and the family will be at the funeral chapel from 6-8 Tuesday evening to greet friends and relatives. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Trinity Lutheran Church or Orphan Grain Train.Sues husband chose the date April 1, 2026 for this funeral service, The two of them had their first date, 30 years ago today.
