Preserve forever →Susan Boesvert Smith
December 2, 1953— March 2, 2026
Sandy Springs, GA
Susan Boesvert was born to David and Annette Boesvert on December 2nd, 1953 at St. Joseph's Hospital, Memphis, TN.
She graduated from All Saint's School in Vicksburg, MS and later from University of Memphis. After four years work as a medical technician, she entered the University of Tennessee Center for the Health Sciences from which she received her Doctor of Medicine degree in 1983. She married a classmate with whom she weathered the rigorous years of post-graduate medical education. Her ultimate fellowship training was in endocrinology; her husband's ultimate fellowship training was in clinical cardiac electrophysiology.
Susan and Bobby had three children: Thomas (Marlena; daughter Laura); Christina (Andrew); and, Teresa (Wood). Susan worked part-time in her specialty until it became obvious that children need at least one reliable parent, a role she accepted graciously and performed with aplomb. She was active in her children's formal and religious education. Additionally, she served in adult leadership capacities in all three children's Scouting programs.
After Bobby discovered that Susan had taken a formal ornithology course in undergraduate school and realized how much knowledge she had, they remained avid birders for the rest of their lives and traveled to the corners of North America during migration seasons in pursuit of their shared hobby. When she lost freedom of mobility they accelerated their visits to US National Parks; once again to all corners of the country.
Susan died quietly, suddenly but not unexpectedly on March 2nd, 2026 from long term complications of a 16 year war with progressive Multiple Sclerosis. We won many battles during a war whose outcome was determined from the beginning. Her extraordinary will to live and her apparent inability to experience self-pity were her most endearing attributes. Without these fundamental elements of her personal composition, my own struggles to preserve and protect her would have been unbearable.
A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday March 28, 2026 at Holy Innocent's Episcopal Church at 805 Mt. Vernon Highway, Sandy Springs, GA 30327
In lieu of flowers, her life may be best honored by donations to the Multiple Sclerosis Society or to Holy Innocent's Episcopal Church.
