She was born on September 13, 1928, in Seoul, the third of four children of Won Geun Lee and Do Hyun Kim. During the Korean War, she was a multi-talented capable young woman, working as a nurse, typist and broadcaster to support her family. She later married the late Dae Kyung Ham, a tall and athletic English teacher and translator, and together they raised five daughters and one son.In 1992, they embarked on a new chapter in life and immigrated to the US in their sixties, joining their daughter Meeree, her husband Taesuk Yun and their daughter Grace. In the years that followed, they took great joy in traveling the world with their son Sung Bum, a pilot. They were long-time residents at the Claridge House in Arlington.On March 13, 2026, Mrs. Ham died peacefully at the age of 97, surrounded by loving family at Virginia Hospital Center. She is survived by her six children, Meeyun (Bong Sam Huh), Meeree (Taesuk Yun), Mi Ok (the late Ki Young Cha), Mee Hye, Su Jung (Hyo Chel Ryu) and Sung Bum (Joon Hye). Her grandchildren are Jung Lim Huh (Jiyoon Yeom) and their daughter Jueun; Carey You Lim Huh (John Peach); Grace Yun (Seho Lee) and their sons Devin and Cameron; Myung Hun Cha (Yoon Ji Oh); Myung Kyung Cha (Shin Young Yoon) and their son Jae Ha; Joong Wook Ryu; and Thomas Ham.She will be remembered for her strength, grace, and unwavering devotion to her family. Her life spanned generations and continents, and the values she lived by continue to guide the family she so lovingly nurtured.Funeral service will be held at Fairfax Memorial Funeral Home (9902 Braddock Rd. Fairfax VA 22032) on Thursday March 19, 4-8pm, followed by interment on Friday March 20, 10am-11am.
