Sue Vance Wilson, 92, of Mooresville, passed away peacefully on March 9, 2026, at Summit Place Assisted Living Center. Born on June 15, 1933, in Jackson County, North Carolina, to the late Rev. C.O. and Marie Hensley Vance, Sue graduated from Cove Creek High School in Vilas in 1951. She went on to earn degrees from Gardner-Webb College and Appalachian State Teachers College in 1955. In December 1954, she married her college sweetheart, Darrell Wilson.

A dedicated educator, Sue taught in several districts in North Carolina and Virginia before the family settled in Mooresville in 1971. Deeply devoted to her faith, Sue was an active member of First Baptist Church of Mooresville from the time her family arrived. She taught youth Sunday School, participated in women’s circles, and was a longtime member of the Joy Sunday School Class. She served on numerous committees and, in 2002, was ordained as the church’s first female deacon. She also remained connected to her alma mater as a member of the Gardner-Webb Alumni Board and received the Distinguished Alumni Award in 2004.

Sue was a beloved teacher, mother, “Gammi,” and friend to many. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Darrell Wilson, and her sister Doris Vance Banner. She is survived by her children and their spouses, Michelle and Bill Corbett, Charles Darrell “Chuck” Jr. and Stacey Wilson, and Kyle and Tammy Wilson; her grandchildren and their spouses, Dara Sue and Ben Martinez, Wilson Corbett, Zebulon Corbett, Charles D.
